Help someone else

If you are worried that someone you know is behaving differently and is struggling, then you can support them in various ways. We all have mental health, just like we have physical health, but it can be very hard to know when someone is struggling with mental health problems.

We have put together a list of complimentary therapies that can be used to help you. They are listed in our Therapies page.

Some common signs to look out for:

  • Changes in mood
  • Changes in behaviour
  • Changes in their thinking, how they feel and complaints of physical problems

Here are a few tips on how to help someone:

  • Set time aside with no distractions
  • Let them share as much or as little as they want to
  • Don’t try to diagnose or second guess their feelings
  • Keep questions open-ended, Say “Why don’t you tell me how you are feeling?”
  • Talk about self-care
  • Listen carefully to what they tell you
  • Offer them help in seeking professional support and provide information on ways to do this
  • Know your limits
